Three Vehicle Accident Due to Run Stop Sign

A three-car accident sent one person to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, according to San Angelo Live. The crash occurred around 4:30 PM and by all accounts was an entirely avoidable accident. The vehicles involved were a Kia Sorrento, Chevy Equinox, and a Ford Taurus.

Police officials reported that the Kia Sorrento was traveling east on San Antonio St. when the driver ran a stop sign. The Chevy Equinox was going south on Garfield Street and T-boned the Kia Sorrento hitting the driver side. The impact then pushed the Kia Sorrento into another car which was the Ford Taurus.

It was reported that all of the occupants of all three vehicles were okay and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. However, one of the passengers was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. This lack of serious injury is very fortunate since all three vehicles had a child with them. The driver of the Kia Sorrento did receive two citations; one was for running the stop sign in the second was for driving with an invalid license.

Possible Distracted Driving

It is unknown why the driver of the Kia Sorrento ran the stop sign. Maybe she was driving in an unfamiliar area and did not realize that she had approached a stop sign which resulted in her not stopping, or it could have been something more common such as being distracted while she was driving. If this was the case, it is highly probable that she was distracted by her cell phone. She may have been talking, texting, checking her email, or looking at her GPS. Whatever the reason, this is a general scenario when it comes to car accidents. So many people are driving while texting or otherwise using their smartphones, not just making a phone call. This action is an ever-increasing phenomenon. It would be very similar to trying watching television while you operate a vehicle. It’s distracting, and you can’t do either of them very well. So many people think that they’ll only take a quick look. However, all it may take is a glance away from the road before you’re in a car accident.
