Rear End Collision in South Abilene

Big Country News reported on June 18, 2018, that a woman had been hospitalized due to an auto accident in South Abilene on Monday afternoon. The accident was the result of two cars colliding with each other. The woman’s car hit a flatbed truck that was stopped at the intersection of S. 14th St. and Pioneer Drive. People who were at the scene of the accident reported that a bystander actually helped the woman get away from her car after the collision had occurred. The woman that had hit the flatbed truck was taken to Hendrick Medical Center, but with only minor injuries. According to the article, no other injuries were reported at the scene of the accident.

The Dangers of Distracted Driving

The details of this accident are unknown. We do not know why the woman crashed into a truck that was sitting at a stop light or stop sign. The only thing that we know for sure is that the woman did indeed crash into a stopped vehicle. She hit hard enough that she did suffer minor injuries and had to go to the hospital. While one can only assume the reasons this crash happened, many people across Texas are involved in auto accidents as a result of distracted driving. The most common form of distraction is the cell phone but almost anything that can take your mind off the task of driving for an extended period can be considered a distraction. These things can be loud kids in the backseat, food or drink, and even the car dash navigation system.  However, almost everybody has their cell phone on them all the time. Many people are tempted to look at the cell phone while they drive. While they’re looking at their cell phone, their eyes are not on the road. This practice can have disastrous results. For example, they may not see that a stop sign is coming up that there’s a car already stopped there as they crash into the back of your vehicle.
