Cell Phone Use Causes Car Wrecks

The statistics are undeniable. Cell phone use while driving a vehicle (even hands free devices) causes car accidents. Here are just a few recent studies:

–Being distracted by the use of a cell phone increases the reaction time of the driver as much as being legally intoxicated while driving! (Study conducted by the University of Utah).

–The use a wireless devices is the number 1 source of driver inattention. (Study done by Virginia Tech University and the NHTSA).

–Use of a cell phone while driving increases your odds of being in a serious accident that will cause injury by a factor of 4. Put another way, you are 4 times more likely to get in an accident that causes an injury if you use a cell phone while driving. (Study by NHTSA and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.)

–Use of a cell phone while driving decreases by 37% your brain activity that would otherwise be focused on safe driving. (Study by Carnegie Mellon.)

–In 2008 The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined that driver inattention was the cause of 16% of all fatal crashes that equated to 5,800 lives being lost. 21% of all crashes resulting in an injury were caused by distracted driving with a total of 515,000 people injured.

–Nearly 50% of teens admit to texting while driving. (Study by NHTSA.)

With the overwhelming evidence pointing to the dangers of cell phone use while driving, everyday thousands of people use their cell phones while they drive. Most people would not contemplate drinking alcohol to the level of intoxication and then attempting to drive. Yet, many of those same people talk on the cell phone while driving. The risk of causing a serious accident is about the same when you compare someone driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 and using a cell phone while driving. Shouldn’t there be a law against this obviously dangerous activity? The state of Texas has banned the use of hand-held cell phones and texting in school zones. Otherwise, the state of Texas allows, on a state-wide level, the use of cell phones while driving. There are some cities that have banned the use of cell phones while driving–but such limitations only extend to the city limits of that municipality.

Galbreath Law Firm Can Help with Hail Damage Claims

Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011–Severe thunderstorms carrying large pockets of hail and causing several tornados hit Abilene, Texas and the surrounding Big Country Easter afternoon. The thunderstorms pummelled many areas with large chunks of hail with multiple reports of baseball sized hail hitting many areas. The areas hardest hit included Taylor, Callahan, Shackelford and Stephens counties. Virtually every vehicle left exposed to the weather suffered hail damage. While the hail damage to vehicles is quickly noticed, it is also suspected that many roofs in Abilene, Clyde, Baird, Albany, Breckenridge and the surrounding Big Country likewise suffered hail damage.

The hail damage will undoubtedly result in a large number of hail damage claims being made against automobile and homeowner insurance policies. People making claims on their insurance policies should realize they are about to battle a big insurance company who likely routinely decides insurance claims in favor of maximizing profits for the insurance company by minimizing the amount paid out to you on your claim. Additionally, the insurance companies have a team of lawyers working hard to maximize their profits, shouldn’t you have a law firm watching over your interest as well?

If your hail damage claim has been wrongfully denied or delayed, you need to call the Galbreath Law Firm so they can demand justice on your behalf. If your hail damage claim results in your insurance company acting unreasonably by not paying the full value of your claim, you need to call the Galbreath Law Firm in order to show the insurance companies you mean business.

The lawyers at the Galbreath Law Firm have over 36 years of combined legal experience fighting insurance companies and ensuring insurance companies play fair. Don’t get left out in the rain with your hail damage claim–Call the Galbreath Law Firm at (325) 437-7000.

AUSTIN (April 19, 2011) — The Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announces that Daryl R. Hayes received Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law. Daryl R. Hayes currently practices in Abilene, Texas with the Galbreath Law Firm.

TBLS recognized the newly certified attorneys and paralegals at the induction ceremony on April 19, 2011. The Supreme Court of Texas convened in special session for the induction, and inductees were sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson.

“The Court firmly supports the certification process,” Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson said. “Through certification, lawyers provide enhanced expertise to the most complex problems, and in that way assure Texas citizens of unparalleled competence in the resolution of important disputes. The certification board, and those certified by it, stand as a proud statement to the Texas legal community.”

Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 21 specific areas of law. Board Certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges and pass a 6-hour written examination. To remain certified, attorneys must apply for recertification every five years.

“Board Certified attorneys have made a commitment to excellence to serve the justice system in Texas and to benefit individuals and institutions in Texas,” said Ruben Robles, Chairman of the TBLS Board of Directors. “They have dedicated their time to meeting all the requirements for initial certification and they have made an ongoing commitment to continue working and acquiring knowledge in their specialty area.”
